It's rare that I get to spend more than a day and a half with my family so I made it a priority this year on holidays to hunker down and take in the sights at my folks house. It's the complete opposite of Atlanta; vast stretches of farmland, no smog and wild animals for pets. All of this is reminiscent of my childhood, which of course was taken for granted at the time. Hatching turtle eggs, re-homing snakes and nursing blue jays back to health was just the way things were, for me at least. It makes me realize that you're not just one person. You're very many different people in your life and this gives me perspective when I need it the most. As does watching the fog roll in over the pond in the morning while drinking my coffee and realizing a bald eagle just flew by. What is this place?!
